In a move that’s bound to frighten everyone, HRA Pharma, the company the manufactures the European version of Plan B called Norlevo has revised its packaging to indicate that the pregnancy prevention medication is not always effective for women over 165 pounds and doesn’t work at all for women who weigh more than 176 pounds.
I just saw this on Facebook and this is scary. I’ve used EC twice before, and both times I was definitely over 165 pounds and probably 170-something. So I guess it didn’t actually work, I was just fortunate enough to not get pregnant? Fuck.
The problem with so many drugs is that they’re only tested on “normal” BMI people. So the rest of us (who are most of us, fuck it all!) are just stuck hoping things work.
And generic drugs are usually only tested on men, not men and women (well, men and women from a bio/physical science standpoint). Not a problem here, since it’s uterus specific so they would have had to test it on people with uteruses, but things like blood pressure and heart medication? Frequently only tested on normal BMI weight white men. And we’re supposed to cross our fingers and hope that it works on the rest of us. Which is bullshit.
